Only Night
a poem of desire
My skirt in your hand, an arm of river round my thigh, evening oncoming in a blaze, spring fires burn away chills. Moths come down wings blinking, astounded carrying the spark of Artemis straight to our hearts like cupids arrow or a rocket shot up to our pumice moon. We are nothing but light eating only sunbeams. I am woman shaped radium rod. Sun-kisser, moon-swooned star- shattered, the kiss of an opening bud. I am in my bed, by a river counting reeds to sleep. I am the core of an iris constellating with flower after flower. You, are the incoming mist laying low and heavy over the water. The turn of a cranes head undulation, before crying out. We are the shade of purple only the night will answer to.
(This is the Alte Jeetzel near my house, when I go for a walk it is to here and the Elbe beyond! This is where I was in my mind when I wrote this poem)
(a miniature painting of an iris I did, I LOVE iris!)
