Lumin
Third post, The Wonder of a Cat.
Yesterday in the early evening light my beautiful boy followed me around my developing garden watering and pinching off the dead heads of roses whose brown heads had forgotten all the magic of a rose. Lumin, Emperor No-Toe (he had a toe amputated earlier this year), Mister, Sweet boy, or just simply Boy traipsed after me like a shadow. I knew I had to share a poem inspired by my beloved one.

Lumin
The madness comes on him,
dusk in a primordial forest,
that guttering light, erratic as a fire fly.
He is taken with it, like a wild wind
whipped up by elder branches
and tossed into a waiting night.
Small tiger, thin striped one,
made from strips of shadow
and a skit of white that shows
his heart beaming.
Did your mother build you from all
the mysterious and lovely things?
Even perfect needles, slender hooks
that slide in and out, fishing
for the memory of her milk.
After the inferno of his body
has burnt out, he makes a galaxy of himself
on the eternity of my shoulder.
What a sound the universe makes
when its coiled into the
shape of a nearly sleeping cat.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Yes Lumin has my heart in his perfect paws! True for me too, I have had three cats and the first was absolutely my soul mate - I even used to dream he was human and we could communicate with ease!
Your Lumin looks just like my Henry who’s no longer here but is still with me. Lovely poem.
